Columbia's home town feel has kept people relocating here for generations! As long time residents of Columbia, we have seen much growth to the Greater Columbia Area and we are proud to call this beautiful place home. Marked by its beautiful State Capital located in the center of the city, Columbia is the state's largest metropolitan area. With a annexed population of approximately 130,000 and a metropolitan population of around 750,000, Columbia is the home to great entertainment, beautiful southern homes, and friendly people. Residents will testify to its high quality of life, notable annual cultural events, lively arts community, fun parks and recreational opportunities, excellent special events and sports facilities, and rich southern American history.  

This city of smiles is lively and vibrant yet calm and peaceful, historic and traditional yet fresh and exciting! Being the most perfect and ideal place to raise a family, Columbia has a strong economy, easy accessibility, great schools, and delightful Southern hospitality that will charm anyone to staying here for many years to come. Popular for people of all ages, Columbia has much to offer with plenty of opportunities for outdoor recreation. Housing

Columbia offers a delightful diversity of housing styles, lot sizes, and prices. Columbia's growing housing market consists of charming homes for sale in established Columbia neighborhoods, new homes and apartments, particularly in more suburban locations. You can find everything from renovated Victorian homes on tree-lined streets with large rooms, stained glass windows, and unique architecture for sale, to newly built three-story Charleston style residences with private, walled gardens for sale. Columbia also offers Craftsman bungalows and brick ranch style homes. Housing prices range from in the low thousands to several million. The average price for a new single-family home is approximately $191,100, with variation in price dependent largely upon age, size, location, desirability and condition.

The average monthly rent for a 2-bedroom apartment in the city is approximately $748 per month.

Neighborhoods

The Columbia area offers a diverse range of neighborhoods from locations in the heart of downtown to the shores of Lake Murray, or the banks of the Saluda, Broad or Congaree Rivers.  

If you are looking for a quiet, but central area, downtown Columbia offers just that in such neighborhoods as Elmwood Park (pictured on left), Forest Hills, Heathwood, and Shandon. Downtown also offers high energy areas centered around a downtown shopping and nightlife  neighborhoods such as 5 Points or The Vista.  

For those desiring an escape from the city, the Greater Columbia area has many rural suburban communities such as Spring Valley and Wildewood for the golf lover; Blythewood for the riding enthusiasts and those desiring more country surroundings; and waterfront living on Lake Murray, or one of our three rivers. Columbia is a peaceful place and full of fun things to do! 

LAKE MURRAY

Lake Murray is approximately 41 miles long, over 14 miles wide at it's widest points, and has over 500 miles of shoreline. At the time when the lake and the 200 foot dam were finished, it was the world's largest man-made reservoir. The lake area focusing largely on outdoor activities such as swimming, diving, water skiing, boating, fishing, hiking and camping. The Lake Murray area also provides easy access to all of the cultural activities that Columbia has to offer.
